We’re pleased to announce that the Wish centre has recently received £51,405 of funding from The National Lottery Community Fund COVID19 crisis programme to help with the overwhelming demands for domestic abuse services in their local area of Blackburn and Darwen.
Lockdown has seen a rise in reports from men and women suffering domestic abuse. There has been 49% rise of reports to National Domestic Abuse helplines and 17% increase in reports to Men’s Advice Line so this funding will be a lifeline to many of the intended beneficiaries.
“Our services are in more demand than ever before, this is the first time we’ve experienced a situation like this as people are being forced to spend unrestricted amount of time with their abuser. Thanks to Wil and his team this funding will help us reach out in new and creative ways to those vulnerable members of society who are experiencing undue violence in their homes.” Shigufta Khan, Director of the Wish Centre
The Wish Centre has been working in the community since 1989 by providing a refuge for domestic abuse victims. Over the decades they’ve expanded their services to a provide a helpline and a variety of outreach programmes.
